Tinker Toy Swift

Here is my new swift, you can find it on Jen's blog. I thought I liked it, but shortly after I took this picture the ball I was winding began doing funny things. It wound around the top above the ball, or caught around the bottom of the plastic of the ball winder. I'm pretty sure it isn't the swift at fault. I think I've heard things like your swift has to be above your ball winder. Mine was on the floor and the ball winder was on a coffee table. I was holding a small bit of tension on the fiber coming off the swift, then it fed through the metal feed before it is spun on the ball. I think I also remember that if you have a lot of yardage, like this 475 yds of sock yarn, you have to break it up into 2. I did that. Then I tried to spin up a small hank of Renaissance wool. Still the same issues. Yarn looping only around the top, then catching under the bottom of the machine. I'm going to check online for tips, but if anyone has any please comment.
