We did hit one yarn shop in Manhattan, it's called Gotta Knit! Strange little shop. Nice enough, but on the 5th floor on 33rd between 5th and Madison. Strange in the sense that those of us in the rest of the US are not use to having to be buzzed up to a shop. She buzzed us, we went up in the world's smallest elevator, and then into a small outer room. Then into the shop. I can't imagine what she must pay for this incredibly small space. The people were quite nice, helpful. The selection was small, but for the space, what can you do. I ended up with a hank of unnamed cashmere, 200 yds, $35. I had some Claudia Handpainted in my hand, and husband was saying "just get whatever you want", but I had a really hard time paying as much as they wanted for it. I can find that locally. The cashmere I bought was their label, except she said their source couldn't get the labels printed quickly, so she told them to JUST SEND THE DAMN YARN ALREADY. So I guess I'm hoping it is really cashmere, not that labels couldn't lie anyway. And plus with souviner yarn you have to think of it as like really half price, right?
