I took the three youngest kids to the festival today. They like to go for the glass blowing, the wooden puzzle guy and the public hanging. It's always hot there, and hard to get at food thats not a gizzillion dollars. Local dutchy people really don't go to this, it's all tourists. My best friend here is a 60 year old dutchy lady, and she tells about when she was a kid that was the place to go every year, it was all local people having a hoedown. Now it's people who make craft items who come from other states. The Amish stereotype is exploited, real Amish and most Mennonites wouldn't put themselves on display like that. They're busy working on their farms every day. Anyhow, we had fun, and I got some birthday presents, and some soap to use on my poison ivy!

Look for jewel weed (the one that pops when you hit the seed pod) --the poison plants LOVE to grow near it AND it is a good remedy for the poisons. Poison oak tends to be a climber is also a leaf of three-seems to me that there is another rhyme about it. Around here poison ivy is the big one.We have lots of sumac but not the poison variety.
