More ugliness

Worked for 2 1/2 hours tonight (during Idol) on the ugly shawl. It's actually fun, I work whatever yarn for however many rows I feel like. I follow the pattern as close as I can, but I see I did get it flipped around at one point, so you can see more purling than you should. But whatever. It's functional, and a no-brainer. My hands hurt. That never happens. But I'm achy all over tonight anyway. Tomorrow I get to work the yarn shop. When I did it last week it wasn't busy at all, but I expect a Thursday to be more busy. Not as much knitting time. But I'm not there to sit and knit, I'm there to take care of the shop. It's still fun to be around all that lovely yarn! And she should have a new shipment of Cherry Tree Hill sock in!

World's Uglest Shawl

I cast on this morning the feather and fan shawl, but with a specific purpose. Or 2. First, this is made out of my worsted weight stash ends. I am purposely just grabbing, not arranging colors at all. So purpose one is to use up scrap, purpose 2 is to crown myself winner of the ugliest shawl contest to be held here on my blog, with myself as the judge, and myself as the only permitted entrant. So far so ugly!

I was at B&N last night looking at the latest knitmags. I had already been through this issue before, but this time I notices a great stashbuster pattern: the crochet coil rug. Basically you take 1/2" cotton coil, clothes line, and you crochet around and around. You can find some projects on Ravelry, under Coiled Rug by Linda Cyr. They used cotton, 2 or 3 strands held together, but I figured anything from my stash could be good for this, if you're just looking for a utilitarian rug for the garage entrance, or somewhere it doesn't have to be beautiful. I have a lot of small portions of balls left, even sock yarn held a few strands together would be good.

Endpaper progress

This is my first Endpaper Mitt so far. I read what some people had been saying on Ravelry about this pattern and I disagree about it being boring to do. I like it very much. It's a small enough repeat so you're not having to keep track of 18 rows, but enough interest because it is 10. I also like the colors, Eunny picked right, it's not what I would have put together. I think I'll use the chart for mittens or gloves again.

Burning the stash in 2008

I found this on the burning up the stash 2008 group on Ravelry, It's the March contest:

Do you like to knit purses? Go through your stash, full skeins and partial, and pick out several skeins (they can be the same yarn, or different - we’re hoping, different), that would give those of us looking at your picture a sense of what your overall stash looks like. If you generally knit with only wool…well then, that’s what your project would be made of. DO you like to add in a little novelty yarn every now and again? Maybe you could embellish your “purse” with said novelty yarn. How about socks? Are you all about the socks and the fun colorways out there? Then knit a pair of socks, combining some of the different yarns/colorways you like to you. Are you a shawl knitter, consider the scrap yarn shawl (Ravelry pattern), and knit a shawl, combining yarns used from your stash. Pick a project, and yarns, that have “YOU” written all over them. Here’s hoping this will help you, not only burn up some stash, but get outside the box, and combine yarns that you wouldn’t ordinarily do. When knitting items like a shawl, remember you can double strand, if you need to, to get the same gauge you might get with a bulky yarn used in the same project.

I looked though my bags last night, and decided that most of what I have is guy colors, because I live with 7 people of the male persuasion. BORING. I need to get at the Fair Isle hats and gloves I intended it all for. As I cannot decide on a project right now (I've gone off Wisp also) maybe stashbusting will be my goal
