Catching up...

Well, it's been an interesting week at our house. We received some news from #1 son- he has quit college and is going to go to work, somewhere, anywhere, 40 hrs. a week. This means he will be moving out by the end of the year because we decided that is the limit we are setting. I have spent a somewhat anguished week, not because I think he will not go back to school ever, or that I doubt he can get a good job and find an apartment. I know he can do it. I don't want to go into the negatives, what I'm upset about is how he is a completely different person than he was before he was about 16. Never in a million years would I have guessed him to have the personality he does. Having said that I know college is not for everyone, it certainly wasn't for me, but I married well. He may have a rougher road. I am praying and believing that this is an opportunity for him to become responsible and what an exciting time it is to have your first place, and be young with no dependent children (it's fun after too, but he's free). I was kind of stopped in my tracks for a couple of days with worry, I know God is in this and there are good things to come for him.
I finished my husband's Jacob's Ladder Scarf. The yarn was a Merino Acrylic mix, very squooshy, nice to work with. I don't think it would block very well, not quite enough wool content. But I don't think it needs blocking. It was fun to do.
Which leads me to my current project:
This is the beginnings of some convertible mittens for #5. He likes yellow, and I like this combo. I'm using various charts from some fair isle socks from Kathleen Taylor's Dakota Dreams website and working out the sizing from a swatch. The yarn is Bernat Berella which feels more like a chunky than a worsted.

I can imagine how hard it has been for you. My mil was devastated that my husband didn't go.He never did and has written a novel, is lead programmer at his company, runs a 20,000 readers a day website, and writes webcomics for which he gets paid--all from home. He is completely self taught. I don't know what the Lord has for your son but I have seen what he did with my husband and the heart change He made between when he was young and now.
